130-inch image with laser technology! THE PREMIERE... Anything is possible!
The first time I saw a projector, it was huge!!!!
In the early days of projectors, there were many constraints, and not everyone could afford them. As if the bill wasn't enough, people had to dedicate a totally dark room for installation, the fixture measured one square meter (36 inches by 36) and required fine adjustments for color balance and focus. The three bulbs used to illuminate the 3 primary color guns - red, blue and green - had a life expectancy of a few hundred hours. Needless to say, watching everyday TV on a projected screen was out of the question...
The product has been refined over the years, but was always designed for occasional use. Even with an increased lifespan in the thousands of hours for the now unique projection lamp, daily listening didn't provide more than a year or two before lamp refurbishment and lenses... very expensive.
Personally, I hated it, because yes, although it was very big, the image was dark and lifeless, it required fixing the thing to the ceiling, running wires through the walls, adjusting the lens which would get out of adjustment as long as you had a home theater that vibrated the room and... dust would lodge on the inner lens.
All this is now a thing of the past with Samsung's laser technology. Let me show you each of the aforementioned annoyances that are no longer part of the equation. This, I must admit, is fabulous...
GO!
Ugly 80's projector...
No more constraints thanks to a projector that's more versatile than a conventional TV.
We'll be talking about the ultra-short-throw projector principle, a technology embraced by Samsung with its The Premiere range. This projector can be placed just a few inches from a wall, making it a pleasure to install in the room. That's a good start, isn't it! But that's not all, it's compact and lightweight so you can squeeze it in when you're not using it. No more unsightly ceiling fixtures.
Unlike the units of the past, it now features a good sound system for daily viewing. With 20,000 hours without degradation of the laser transmitter, you can watch "GIANT" TV just as if it were a traditional TV!
What's more, for true everyday TV in these modern times, all the smart TV applications are included, such as web search, YouTube, but above all Netflix. It doesn't get much more "home theater" than this: select a movie and sit back in your favorite armchair to watch the action unfold on a 130-inch screen, right in your own home!
Finally, there's no need for a screen cloth, although it's preferable, as the brilliance is such that the need for total darkness is no longer a requirement. Good opaque curtains will do for daytime use.
Laser technology is the key!
With the accuracy of a laser emitter, or even 3 emitters on the top-of-the-range Samsung Premiere 9 model, you'll see every detail of a 4K Ultra High Resolution image. Every pixel is reproduced on your screen with surgical precision. Movements are fluid, as the laser traces the action before your eyes at lightning speed!
From a technical point of view, the DCI-P3 colorimetric standard is reproduced by 83% on the single-laser LSP7T model and by 106% on the triple-laser LSP9T, giving an image very faithful to the source. When it comes to brightness, we're not outdone, since the Premiere projectors are rated at 2200 and 2800 lumens respectively. (Pronounce lumen) This dazzling performance corresponds to an average conventional non-QLED TV set.
Circuits and functions worthy of the best TV sets.
Samsung Premiere uses the HDR10+ standard, enabling the same dynamic ratio as the brand's TVs, but in a projo. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range, which means a high dynamic range of color and contrast. It's this standard that means this projector doesn't give a bland image as in the past, but an intense image, particularly in video games.
Thanks to the classic Samsung TV remote control, you'll have access to all the "Smart" functions, such as the choice of Netflix, YouTube, Prime TV, Samsung TV Plus content, and there's so much more! It's possible to do Google searches or work on your files with Office 365 nuagiques, there's almost no end to what you can do, and don't forget, the lifespan of the product is similar to a conventional TV!
A voice-controlled projector...
Once again, the projector of yesteryear can put its clothes back on, as The Premiere incorporates the integrated Alexa Assistant with Quebecois French as well as Bixby. This enables remote settings, activation of your other connected devices in the home as well as all your streaming content searches. And, of course, it answers you - it's got its own speakers!
Multiple applications and voice control
AirPlay 2
Long gone are the days when you had to have an "Apple TV". With built-in AirPlay 2, you can easily play movies, watch shows, listen to music and view photos on La Première directly from your iPhone, iPad or Mac.
- AirPlay 2 functionality is available on all Samsung smart services 2020 and later.
- AirPlay 2 requires iOS 12.3 or later, and on Mac iOS 10.14.5 or later.
Tap View
Owners of non-Apple connected products such as the Android platform will also be able to view their content.
A simple touch is all it takes to display the content of your smartphone on the screen. Just press La Première with your phone and it will automatically mirror what you're watching or listening to.
Game mode
I admit I feel a bit weird talking to you about game mode, but here we are!
As soon as you start up your console, the TV automatically switches to optimization, ensuring a picture fluidity and intensity similar to that of a TV of let's say... 55 inches, but here, it's happening on 130 INCHES!!!!
And since the projo has its own speakers, you're off and running in no time - wow!
The most important: Filmmaker mode.
In addition to the many performance-enhancing technologies that are part and parcel of The Premiere, the cinematographer mode compares favorably with the THX setting of yesteryear. As a reminder, Georges Lucas established a colorimetric standard for his Star Wars films. It was to become the standard to aim for in the world of modern cinematographic broadcasting. Today, we're doing it again, but with the help of today's intelligent technologies.
Designed to preserve the creative intent of filmmakers, Filmmaker Mode promises viewers an authentic cinematic experience on The Premiere. It guarantees that they will be able to enjoy films in ideal conditions, with an image just as the videographer and his technical team intended. Filmmaker Mode is the fruit of a partnership between Samsung and the UHD Alliance and Hollywood film studios, supported by prestigious directors including Christopher Nolan, Martin Scorsese, James Cameron, Paul Thomas Anderson, Ang Lee, Ava DuVernay, JJ Abrams, M. Night Shyamalan and Ryan Coogler. So, unlike THX, we'll be working together to ensure a unanimous result...
Most people don't make any adjustments to their TVs - it's too complicated and often one person's taste doesn't satisfy the others in the household, so we simply don't touch it!
Calibrating a TV set or projector to obtain a "cinema" image is not that simple, and requires technical knowledge that not everyone necessarily possesses.
With Filmmaker Mode, you don't have to do a thing, just watch a film with the encoded information, and the Premiere projector will make corrections as the scenes (dark, fast, high contrast, etc., etc.) demand.
Filmaker mode: main specifications
Filmmaker mode integrates all these automatic functions, which is no mean feat!
- Application of the D65 reference white point for both SDR and HDR content (6500°K). (Ensures compliant tints)
- Respect for the film's native frame rate (24, 25, 30, 48, 50 or 60 frames per second). (Ensures cinema-quality fluidity of movement).
- Native aspect ratio: cinemascope (2.39:1), Panavision (2.35:1), American standard 35 mm (1.85:1)...
- Deactivation of Samsung's Motion Plus motion smoothing process. (The TV will no longer decide or interpret fast movements).
- Overscan disabled, unless otherwise specified in content metadata. (Prevents the recreation of an "enhanced" artificial image while keeping the rendering "as is")
- Deactivate sharpness processing (Fidelity)
- Noise reduction deactivation (Fidelity)
- Disable other image enhancement treatments (Fidelity)

Cutting-edge lifestyle design.
What I like about this product is that it's beautiful and discreet. The rounded shapes and white color don't spoil it. What's more, it incorporates a sound system worthy of the best soundbars, with acoustic beam technology using 22 holes to distribute deep, rich sound that fills the whole room, maximizing immersion left and right.
The configuration is 4.2.2 and includes a subwoofer. Power is sufficient for normal listening, with 40 watts of output. The processor is Dolby Digital Plus. The sound is adaptive, which means that the sound is adjusted for clearer dialogue.
Start-up is instantaneous, which contrasts with previous devices that took one or two minutes to start up...
Like all Samsung TVs, the single remote control lets you integrate all your peripherals into a single "joystick" 😉
Finally, the integrated Bluetooth broadcast will allow you to listen more discreetly...
The last word
As always, my aim is not to sell this or that technology, but to raise awareness of its existence. Over the last ten years or so, the world of electronics has moved into high gear in terms of development, and there's no shortage of surprises. In some cases, like this one, it's no longer a question of improvement, but of reinventing the parameters and criteria of a product class.
I haven't mentioned price, but considering that an 85-inch TV of comparable quality costs in excess of $5,000, or even $15,000 for an 8K, The Premiere starting at $4,999 isn't so bad after all.
Stay tuned!
