Samsung Neo QLED

Sometimes things just happen, and that's exactly what happened to me this week ...

I was planning to start this new blog by offering you an explanatory series on high-fidelity for audio listening, but lo and behold, yesterday I attended a training session at Samsung and what I learned there deserves to be shared "tout de GO"!!!!

We all know that the past year has been one of total upheaval in our lives. There are many negatives, but there are also a few good points to highlight...

Home entertainment has taken off in a big way, as most of us have renewed some of the audiovisual equipment in our possession. The biggest increase was in the purchase of top-of-the-range televisions, while the decrease in outdoor and travel spending was redirected in this direction. Samsung, the world's largest TV manufacturer for 15 years now, sold phenomenal quantities of high-performance TVs in 2020. In simple terms, they've made more money, and so have been able to invest massively in research and development (R&D).

STAY WITH ME HERE, BECAUSE WHAT'S NEW IS REALLY EXCITING!

Let's get started!

  • The reinvention of QLED: NEO-QLED with QUANTUM MATRIX PRO TECHNOLOGY

Four series benefit from this technological breakthrough: the 8K QN800 and 900 and the new 4K QN85 and 90 series TVs...

3 things to remember about NEO-QLED :

1) Quantum Mini LED for greater control over image backlighting.

Mini LEDs are 1/40th the size of the LED they replace! 40 times smaller! Thanks to the new AI (neural-capable artificial intelligence) processor, control of the screen matrix will be absolute, allowing micromanagement of light and dark areas, passing through the entire palette in between! Imagine a vast landscape, with LED Minis, where every nuance can be detected to perfection...

2) Contrast enhancement in 12-bit deep blacks

This will result in a gradation of dark areas in 4096 levels, for night scenes, without any loss of detail. For example: in a night scene, the bark of a tree is clearly visible; in this photo, shades in the sky and buildings are much more detailed.

3) Local adaptive brightness enhancement :

This new technology will make it possible to use energy available in a dark area to "give" it to a lighter area. An example: a firework display at night. The TV will save the energy it doesn't send to the Mini-LEDs of the night sky portion, and allocate it to the Mini-LEDs of the fireworks themselves. The result is a more realistic reproduction of the fireworks display at night...

  • The key word in 2021:AI for Artificial Intelligence GEN3

    Sonxplus Chibougamau

In 2019, Samsung offered us a color correction and clarity system evaluated and corrected in real time. This technology made it possible to compare images from your broadcasts with a map of thousands of images in memory so you could guide your TV's "on-board computer" in selecting hues, grayscale, contrast and the list goes on! The new 8K models benefit from this futuristic feature...

With the introduction of more than twice as many 8K models in 2020, Samsung added neural capability to its 8K processor, while 4K models received the "AI" processor of the previous year's 8Ks.

What is neural AI?

A: Neural capacity now enables the TV set's "brain" to analyze images without the need to compare copies in memory to guide this analysis. The possibilities are now almost infinite, being limited only by the speed of execution, which brings us to 2021!

This year's Samsung 8K processor features 16 (yes, sixteen!) neural processors!

The NÉO-QLED 4K 2021 range will be equipped with the neural AI system of the 8K 2020.

Good! I hope I haven't lost too many of you! I'm now going to explain to you everything that this famous "neural" processor does

  • Enhanced colors: Depending on the image presented, the hue is corrected for greater realism. For example, a bottle green is totally different in shade from the green of greenery or a piece of machinery. To feel at home, you need to recognize these hues, and the processor does it for you.
  • Higher contrast: This is very important when viewing dark scenes. An ordinary TV will tend to lose detail in a grayish picture background, Samsung's HDR10+, in addition to allowing greater vibrancy to the colors, also helps to nuance the gray areas of the TV picture.
  • Adaptive backlighting : The screen of a QLED TV benefits from LED lighting that adapts to brightness requirements. The brighter it is, the more intense the backlighting. But when we're in front of a night sky, the screen has to be almost turned off. The AI takes care of everything.

  • 4K or 8K enhancement depending on model: The difference that AI makes here is very important, because not all content is 4K or 8K. Thanks to powerful processes, the new 2021s with neural capability will be able to finely reproduce details lost in lower resolutions. (As an aside, YouTube is now broadcasting 8K content, the next Olympic Games will be broadcast in 8K, and many new games consoles will soon be compatible and offering it).
